Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus reached Bangkok today (April 3) to attend the Sixth Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Prof Yunus and his delegation landed at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport around 12 pm local time, confirmed Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

Upon arrival, the Chief Adviser was warmly received by Thai Minister in Attendance, Jiraporn Shinduprai.

During his stay, Prof Yunus will address the BIMSTEC Summit and is scheduled to engage in a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of member states. 

Among these, a notable meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take place on the sidelines of the summit on Friday.

Additionally, the Chief Adviser will witness the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) as part of the summit proceedings.

Bangladesh is set to assume the BIMSTEC chairmanship during the summit, with the official handover scheduled for tomorrow.

Prof Yunus is expected to return to Dhaka on Friday night following the conclusion of the summit.

The three-day event, held from April 2–4 in Bangkok, is centered on seven priority areas of cooperation: Trade, Investment and Development; Environment and Climate Change; Security; Agriculture and Food Security; People-to-People Contact; Science, Technology and Innovation; and Connectivity.
