Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Representative, Paul Thoppil, will arrive in Bangladesh on Saturday evening for a four-day official visit beginning Sunday (May 4).
Thoppil will be accompanied by a business delegation and is expected to meet members of Bangladesh’s interim government, private sector leaders, and other key stakeholders.
The visit aims to reaffirm Canada’s commitment to Bangladesh amid ongoing democratic reforms, while also advancing trade and investment ties under Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.
During the trip, Thoppil will visit selected private sector zones seen as representative of the long-standing economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Bangladesh is among Canada’s key trading partners in the region. Canada exports wheat, pulses, cereals, and machinery to Bangladesh, and imports textiles and garments in return. Both sides are also exploring enhanced cooperation in information technology, aerospace, agriculture, and clean energy.
