The High Court (HC) on Sunday (May 4) issued a stay order against setting up a temporary cattle market in Dhaka's Aftabnagar for Eid-ul-Azha.
The bench of Justice Kazi Zinath Haque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddique passed the order following a writ petition filed by lawyer Md. Yunus Ali Akand.
Earlier, on April 21, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) issued a lease notification, mentioning vacant areas in Aftabnagar's Block E, F, G, H, Section-1, and 2 for the market. Akand challenged the validity of clause five in the notification.
The writ petition named several respondents, including the Local Government Secretary, DSCC Administrator, DSCC Chief Property Officer, and top officials of Eastern Housing Limited.
Akand argued that Aftabnagar is a residential area with a large population, educational institutions, and other establishments that could be affected by the market.
The court granted a rule and a stay order, preventing the cattle market from being set up this year.
