Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has urged India and Pakistan to avoid further unrest and resolve their current crisis through peaceful means.
He made the call on Thursday while speaking at a seminar organised by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in Dhaka.
The seminar was titled “Fifty Years of Bangladesh-China Relations: Journey Towards New Heights.”
Yao Wen said both India and Pakistan are China’s neighbours, and his country is concerned about the incident that occurred between the two nations on May 7. He stressed that both sides should avoid escalating tensions and work towards a peaceful solution.
The envoy also said that China stands firmly against all forms of terrorism and called for an impartial investigation into the recent attack in Kashmir.
Speaking as the keynote speaker, former Dhaka University international relations professor and analyst Dr Imtiaz Ahmed said the Bangladesh-China relationship goes beyond fifty years and is rooted in historical ties. He described China as a trusted friend of Bangladesh and highlighted China’s strong role in infrastructure and trade cooperation.
Dr Ahmed noted two important aspects of China-Bangladesh relations: China has never interfered in Bangladesh’s internal affairs and maintains deep ties with all political parties in the country.
China can play a key role in areas like the Teesta River issue, healthcare, youth development, and high-speed railway connectivity, he added.
BIISS Chairman Ambassador AFM Gausul Azam Sarkar presided over the seminar, while BIISS Director General Major General Iftekhar Anis delivered the welcome speech.
