DHAKA: The Election Commission suspended 19 election officers including presiding officer of Ghechua Government Primary School center in Tangail-8 by-elections over vote manipulation.

Amongst them, one presiding officer, six assistant presiding officers and 12 poling officers.

The penalty receivers are—Presiding Officer Shukur Mahmud Miah, Assistant Presiding Officers M Mahinur Rahman, MA Jalil Miah, M Abdul Samad, M Ajhar Ali, Gopinath Basu, M Mojammel Haque.

Besides, 12 other polling officers were suspended in this regard.

However, they were suspended by the Election Commission (EC) for their alleged involvement in vote manipulation under section-81 of Representation of the People Order (RPO) law.

Earlier, the voting to Tangail-8 constituency by-polls was held on Saturday.
