SIRAJGANJ: The rail services on Dhaka-North Bengal routes resumed after a eight-hour suspension due to a head-on-collision between two trains at Ullahpara railway station early Sunday that killing two people and injuring 50 others.
The deceased were identified as Altaf Hossain, 35, of Harishpur village of Natore Sadar and Muzibur Rahman, 45, of Lalmonirhat.
The collision, took place at 4:15am, halted rail link of North Bengal (NB) with Dhaka and other parts of the country and later restored at 12:00pm after cleared the rail track.
Ullahpara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shamim Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Railway Police, Fire Brigade and locals said that Dhaka-bound train ‘Ekota’ was parked at Ullahpara railway station. Then Lalmonirhat-bound another train ‘Lalmoni Express’ collided head-on with the stationed train around 4:15am, leaving two men dead on the spot and 50 others injured.
Later, Sirajganj Railway police, Ullahpara Thana police, Ullahpara, Sirajganj, Bogra, Shahjadpur Fire Brigade men rushed to the pot and joined the rescue work.
To look into the incident of head-on-collision, the Railway (Western) authorities formed three probe bodies.
Besides, three railway officials including driver of Ekota Ezpress and assistant station master were suspended for negligence in discharging their duties.
