6 killed in Gazipur road crashes

GAZIPUR: Six people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Kaliakoir and Tongi upazilas of the district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Sobhan, 35, Jahangir Alam, 35, Abdul Khaleq, 35, Abdul Hakim, 40, and Khadija Begum, 20.

Sources said that a truck collided with a leguna (human hauler) in Chandra intersection area under Kaliakoir upazila of the district Tuesday at 8:00am, leaving five people dead.

One of them died on the spot while the others succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.

Officer-in-Charge of Kaliakoir Thana Omar Faruk confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On the other hand, three people were injured in another head-on-collision between a Sylhet-bound truck and a Dhaka-bound leguna on Dhaka-Sylhet route at 7:45am.

Later, the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where an unidentified woman, 42 died under treatment.

Tongi Thana Officer-in-Charge Ismail Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
