NARAYANGANJ: Law enforcers detained Ward Councilor Alangir Hossain of Narayanganj City Corporation over cheque scam from Paikpara area of Mobarak Shah Road in the town on Monday.

The detainee is the councilor of Ward No-17 and son of Shafiqul Islam of the area.

Officer-in-charge Manjur Kader of Sadar Model Thana, confirming the incident, said the councilor gave a cheque of Tk 40 lakh to one Selim Mahmud. But, bank dishonored the cheque as there had no money on the account.

He was detained in this regards, the OC added.
