Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Thursday said the government would change the new text curricula for technical education to give priority to labour-market demand for technically skilled manpower.   

The topics that have no effect on practical life would be stricken off the textbook. “The running technical education is being changed because of its failing to attain the goal,” he further said in the disclosure.

He unveiled the plan at a press conference on ‘Technical and Stipend Education Week-2010’ at the Education Ministry.

The education minister said, “The technical education has been given more priority in the new education policy for its national importance.”

Referring to a lack of skilled manpower, he said country’s well-established textile sectors employ a total of 17,000 foreign employees because of the lack of skilled and experienced hands in the country.

The minister also informed that the College of Textile Engineering and Technology in Dhaka has been upgraded to university for rearing skilled manpower to contribute to the country’s textile and garment sectors.

Besides, the government has made a plan to set up polytechnic institute in each district across the country.

Among others, Education Secretary Syed Ataur Rahman was present at the press meet.
