DHAKA: Experts and policymakers Wednesday urged the government to review the National Youth Policy-2003 in keeping with the national and global changes taking place in the present times.

They also demanded more participation of youths in policymaking and allocation for them to ensure significant poverty reduction and socioeconomic progress.

The pleas came from a policy dialogue on ‘Revisiting Youth Policy of Bangladesh’ at a city hotel.

Population Science Department of Dhaka University in association with the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) organized the dialogue with its Chairman Mehedi Hasan Khan in the chair.

Addressing the programme as chief guest, Youth and Sports Secretary Mahbub Ahmed said a change is needed in the present youth policy on the basis of the importance given by the present government.

“We are working to revise the policy in line with the vision the ruling government has already set,” he added.

He also laid emphasis on need-based programmes to address youths’ problems.

Pro-vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr. Harun-or Rashid, Dean of Social Science Faculty of Dhaka University professor Dr. Farid Uddin Ahmed and UNFPA representative for Bangladesh Arthur Erken, among others, addressed the meet.
