AL leaders Rokeya, Mostofa on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court placed Dhaka North City Mohila League Organising Secretary Rokeya Jaman and Kafrul Thana Awami League President Jamal Mostofa on three-day remand each in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim.

The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Imran Ahammed after police presented the duo before the court and requested a seven-day remand for each.

According to case documents, the incident occurred following a series of political rallies on October 28, 2023. While BNP held a grand rally, the Awami League also organized a counter-rally in a bid to disrupt BNP's program. In the ensuing chaos, alleged Awami League supporters, aided by the police, attacked the BNP rally in Naya Paltan, resulting in Shamim’s death on the spot.

Later, a case was filed at Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024, over the murder of the Jubo Dal leader.

Both Rokeya Jaman and Jamal Mostofa have been charged with involvement in the deadly clash.
