National Citizen Party (NCP) is set to meet Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A K M Nasir Uddin on Sunday (April 20), to discuss regarding party registration.

Ashraful Islam, personal secretary to the CEC, confirmed the development on Thursday (April 17). 

He said the NCP had requested an appointment, and the CEC has fixed the meeting for 12:00pm that day. 

This will be the first meeting between the NCP and the Election Commission (EC).

NCP has not yet submitted any application or made formal contact with the EC. However, in various statements to the media, the party has claimed it is preparing to apply for registration.

According to the law, any political party wishing to contest elections under its own symbol must first register with the EC. Observers believe that meeting the registration requirements could be a major challenge for the NCP.
