DHAKA: At least 147 people, including 29 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami were arrested in Chittagong and Satkhira districts on Saturday.

Police arrested 96 people, including 23 Jamaat men, in overnight drives in Satkahania and Lohagara upazilas of Chittagong district.

Besides, police also seized 50 pieces of yaba tablet during the drives.

Chittagong district additional police super (special branch) Mohammad Naimul Hasan told banglanews that the arrestees included 23 Jamaat-Shibir men, five dacoits and the rest were warranted accused in different cases.

Moreover, 51 people, including six Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested in Satkhira in vandalism case.

The arrest drives were conducted from Friday midnight to Saturday 11:15am.

Satkhira police special branch (SB) inspector Emdad Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
