Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, has urged political parties not to miss the "historic opportunity" for national reform.
He also warned that the sacrifices of those who fought for democracy must not be wasted.
Ali Riaz was speaking at a meeting between the National Consensus Commission and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the LD Hall of the National Parliament today (April 26).
He underscored the need for a unified national charter and a collective commitment to building a just and democratic Bangladesh.
"We are indebted to the brave martyrs who created this opportunity for us," he said. "We must ensure that no citizen faces oppression or injustice under any circumstances. Our journey is aimed at achieving that goal."
Riaz noted that for the past 16 years, Bangladesh has suffered under "the oppression of a fascist regime," and praised Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists for their participation in the democratic struggle, often facing persecution and extrajudicial actions.
"Your contribution to the continuous struggle against fascism will undoubtedly be remembered," Riaz told Jamaat leaders. "The country and the nation will be rebuilt anew with your participation once a democratic state is established."
He added that the interim government's initiative for state reform was a response to a long-standing demand from political parties, civil society, students, and the general public, not simply a government-driven agenda.
"This effort belongs to everyone," Riaz said. "Our success depends on the sincere commitment of all political forces."
The meeting was moderated by Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor.
Other commission members, including Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, and Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, were also present.
