Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami assured the National Consensus Commission of the party’s full cooperation in pushing forward "constructive, positive, and realistic reforms," its Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher said today (April 26).
Speaking at a meeting with the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building, Taher also said his party would "maintain complete consensus" on necessary reforms to rebuild the country.
"Wherever there is a need for additions or subtractions for the benefit of the nation, we will not prioritise individual or party interests," he said.
Highlighting Jamaat-e-Islami’s core positions, Taher stressed the party’s firm commitment to Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. "We are not afraid of the bloodshed of any state when it comes to our sovereignty. We do not accept or care about foreign interference in this matter," he said.
Taher also underlined the party's commitment to democracy, both within the state and inside the party structure.
He claimed Jamaat holds internal elections without campaigns, candidates, or panels — a practice he said could serve as a model for democratic reforms nationally.
Calling for free, fair and credible elections, Taher blamed the country's current political crisis on "sham elections" held over the past three terms.
"The absence of genuine electoral accountability has led to the suffering of the entire nation," he said.
He also emphasised Jamaat’s vision for a corruption-free Bangladesh. "Corruption is at the root of the country's problems," he said, citing reports of massive embezzlement. "If the stolen wealth had been used for education, healthcare and infrastructure, Bangladesh would be in a different place today."
Taher further called for an education system rooted in morality and accountability, stressing the need to rebuild society on ethical foundations.
The meeting was moderated by Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. The Jamaat delegation included Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar; Assistant Secretaries General Rafiqul Islam Khan, AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, and Ehsanul Mahbub Jubair; Publicity and Media Affairs Secretary Matiur Rahman Akand; Dhaka South City unit Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul; and Shishir Monir.
