DHAKA: The voting in the mayoral election in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) is set to begin on Thursday morning (December 22).
The voting will begin at 8:00 am and continue till 4:00 pm without any break.
The number of voters in NCC area is 474,931 who would cast their votes in 174 polling centers.
Seven mayoral candidates, including Selina Hayat Ivy and Sakhwat Hossain -- from ruling Awami League and BNP, are vying in the election.
The campaign for the polls ended amid festivity. Two mayoral runners Selina Hayat Ivy and Sakhwat Hossain, however, expressed their concerns over the fairness of voting.
The law-enforcing agencies are working to ensure rigorous security ahead of the voting.
The Election Commission authority has also assured people of holding a free and fair election.
Ivy called people to be aware about any third party meddling in the polls.
Meanwhile, senior joint secretary general of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi declared not to boycott polls whatever happens.
EC sources said around 9,500 members of law enforcing agencies, including RAB, BGB, police, Ansar and others, have been deployed to beef up the security in the NCC area.
