Nasim asks BNP to leave Jamaat

DHAKA: Health Minister, also presidium member of ruling Awami League, Mohammad Nasim asked the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to leave the company of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

The AL-led 14-party alliance spokesperson also remarked that the election of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) was free, fair and peaceful but they made adverse comments about the poll. “But BNP makes all good achievements controversial.”

Nasim was briefing the press after holding a meeting of 14-party alliance at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office on Sunday (December 25).

Asking BNP to leave Jamaat-e-Islami, the AL leader said: “BNP will never achieve victory by forming alliance with Jamaat. We call them to leave Jamaat.”

Addressing the election commission (EC) formation issue, Nasim said as per section 118 of the Constitution the President will apply his power to form the EC.

He further said 14-party alliance will support all the steps of the President for forming the EC.

AL joint general secretary Mahboob-ul Alam Hanif, organizing secretary Enamul Haque Shamim, president of a faction of JASAD Sharif Nurul Ambia, Workers Party general secretary Fazle Hossain Badshah, general secretary of another faction of JASAD Shirin Akhter, general secretary of Samyabadi Dal Dilip Barua and convener of Communist Center Dr Wazedul Islam Khan were, among others, present here.
