Khaleda’s next defense hearing Jan 26

DHAKA: A city court on Thursday (January 12) has fixed January 26 as the next date of hearing the statement of four accused including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.

Other three persons are Khaleda Zia’s eldest son Tarique Rahman, former BNP lawmaker Kazi Saleemul Haque Kamal, businessperson Sharfuddin Ahmed.

Earlier, Khaleda appeared before the court of third special Judge Abu Ahmed Jomader in Bakshi Bazar area around 10:10am to place her statement.

On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.  

On the other hand, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
