GAIBANDHA: A city court on Sunday (January 15) placed the main accused Asraful Islam and his partner Jahirul Islam on a two-day remand over the murder of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) MP Manjurul Islam Liton.

Gaibandha court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (Sundarganj) Moinul Hassan Usube passed the order around 12:00am.

SI of police Shah Alam confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

A team of Rab-1 detained both accused from Badda area on Wednesday (January 11). Detainee Ashraful is the son of Sundarganj Thana unit Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Haji Yunus.

Earlier on December 31, 2016, unknown assailants shot the ruling Awami League lawmaker Liton inside his home in Sundarganj upazila of the district.

Liton was declared dead at 7:40pm after he had been taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
