GAIBANDHA: Police arrested three more local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on suspicion of their involvement in the murder of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton.
Sundarganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Atiar Rahman told Banglanews that the law enforcers arrested the suspects from different areas of the upazila early Monday (January 16).
Mentioning that the detainees also are accused in explosives cases, he said they will send them to court after quizzing.
Earlier in the evening of December 31, 2016, unknown assailants shot the ruling Awami League lawmaker Liton inside his home at Sundarganj upazila of the district.
The parliamentarian was declared dead at 7:40pm after he had been taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Later, Liton’s sister Tahmida Bulbul filed a lawsuit with Sundargaj police station against four-five unknown persons in this regard.
