Fakhrul fears over ‘Digital Voting Machine’

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed his suspicion of using Digital Voting Machine (DVM) instead of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the polls.

He made this remark at a conference of the Zia Parishad’s representatives’ meet in city’s Engineers Institute Saturday morning (January 21).

Earlier on Friday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed said EVM had some errors but DVM will be flawless. None can hack DVM.

In response to the statement, Mirza Fakhrul mentioned the involvement of Russia in the USA election and alleged that CEC wants to keep AL in power forever.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia suggested a 13-point proposal for a neutral Election Commission (EC). However, AL general secretary termed it ‘empty’ and Finance Minister said ‘bogus’.

But, the President Abdul Hamid took the proposal seriously and praised Khaleda Zia. He started the series dialogue and invited BNP first, the secretary general added.

However, the search committee has not declared yet. So, BNP will not make a negative comment so immediately.

Zia Parishad founder president Kazi Murad presided over the conference.

Standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu also spoke.
