Bullet-hit journo dies in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ: A journalist, who sustained gunshot at the head during covering infighting of ruling Awami League in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district, died on the way to Dhaka from Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital on Friday (February 3).

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hakim Shimul, Shahjadpur correspondent of a Bangla newspaper, Dainik Samakal.

Deceased’s brother M Azad confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

He further said Shahjadpur municipality mayor Halimul Haque’s younger brother Pintu beat Bijoy Mahmud, former president of Shahjadpur College unit Chhatra League (BCL), on Thursday (February 2).​

Later, the supporters of Bijoy attacked the house of the mayor in the afternoon. A clash erupted when gunshots were fired from the Mayor’s house.

Three journalists including Abdul Hakim Shimul sustained gunshots during covering the incident, he added.

Besides, 10 others were injured from both sides in the incident.
