DHAKA: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has commented that a new polarization is going on in the politics centering the next general elections. “It is positive for the politics,” he said.

Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the comment while talking to journalists after joining an anti-drug rally at Daffodil University in the city on Thursday (August 03).

He made the reaction following a meeting of leaders of several political parties held at Bikalpadhara Bangladesh chief and country’s former President Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury’s Baridhara residence on Wednesday night (August 02).  

The political leaders sat in the meeting aiming to float a new political alliance beyond the combines led by the Awami League and the BNP.

A liaison committee was formed in the meeting. Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna was made chief of the liaison committee.

HM Ershad’s brother and Jatiya Party’s Co-Chairman GM Quader also joined the meeting. President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob) ASM Abdur Rob and Executive President Gono Forum Subrata Chowdhury attended the meeting, among others.

Earlier on July 13 night, leaders of several political parties held a meeting at ASM Rob's Uttara residence on the same issue.
