BNP sees ominous sign in Muhith’s remark

DHAKA: The BNP has slammed Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith for his remark on the 16th amendment, saying that the minister’s remark carries ominous sign.

BNP senior joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Saturday (August 05) said that Muhith’s statement is clearly a contempt of court and against the law.

Earlier, the finance minister at a rally in Sylhet on Friday (August 04) said that the 16th amendment of Constitution will be passed in the Parliament ever time when it will be scrapped by the apex court.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said that Muhith’s statement reflects the government’s attitude about the Supreme Court’s verdict on the 16th amendment, as he a senior minister of the Cabinet.

The BNP leader also criticized the government for the irregularities in Hajj flight. He accused the ministries of Civil Aviation and Religious Affairs of failure in this regard.

In response to Awami League general Secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that the BNP leaders should resign from ‘top to bottom’, the BNP leader said that the ruling party leaders are worried about their downfall. So, they are making such comment.
