DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday (Aug 6) filed a petition with the High Court for transferring the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case against her to another court.
BNP chief Khaleda’s lawyers filed the petition to the HC bench comprising Justices Md Shawkat Hossain and Md Nazrul Islam.
The trial of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case is currently undergoing at the special court-5 in Dhaka’s Bakshibazar area.
Khaleda’s lawyer Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon told Banglanews that the transfer petition was filed showing no-confidence on the Judge of Special court-5 Md Akhteruzzaman.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case in 2008 accusing Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others for embezzling Tk 21 million of Zia Orphanage Trust.
Last month, Khaleda asked the court to grill 11 witnesses of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case once again.
The High Court rejected the plea and fixed Aug 3 for the next hearing. However, on August 3, Khaleda’s lawyers said their client was in London for medical treatment.
The ACC asked the High Court to scrap Khaleda’s bail. The High Court’s order on the matter is due on Monday.
Earlier on May 14, the same High Court bench granting Khaleda’s case petition transferred the case to the court of Akhteruzzaman for the third time.
