Govt providing lip service for flood victims: Khaleda

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has voiced concern over deterioration of flood situation in the country, and accused the government of doing nothing other than lip service for the flood victims.

In a statement issued on Sunday (August 13), the BNP chief asked her party leaders and activists to stand by the flood victims with relief materials.

Khaleda Zia is now in London tour, where she went last month for treatment. BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed sent the statement to the media on behalf of the party chief.

In the statement, Khaleda Zia said, “The flood situation has taken a serious turn. Flood-hit people have become hapless. Apart from lip services, the government has no actual service in the flood-affected regions.”

She alleged that the government has failed to take any effective step to tackle the flood situation. There were no emergency relief efforts for the victims. There were no steps to evacuate the marooned people to shelters, she added.
