Don’t do politics over CJ’s illness: Law minister

DHAKA: Law Minister Anisul Huq has urged not to do politics with the illness of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha who went on one month leave recently for rest.

He made the call while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Wednesday (October 04).

Anisul said, “The Chief Justice is sick and staying at home. Doctors have gone to visit him and I’ll make time to visit him soon.”

Earlier on Monday, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha went on a month long leave citing cancer and other physical illness as reason in the leave application form. Later Law minister and Attorney General disclosed the matter to media.

This sudden move by the Chief Justice sparked criticism in the opposition side. BNP has alleged that not illness but the Chief Justice was forced by the government to go on leave following the outcry on the Supreme Court verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment to the constitution.

In response to a query about BNP’s allegation on this issue, Law Minister said that “It is just sad and got nothing to do politics about. We will do whatever necessary according to constitution as he is sick. Let’s keep him in our prayers. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
