DHAKA: President Md Zillur Rahman Saturday called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to do hard work for building Bangladesh as a happy, developed and prestigious country.

“You have been working in the foreign countries for long days and contributing to development of Bangladesh. The foreign currencies sent by you are playing important role in developing the country,” he said.    

The President’s advice came from a reception ceremony organized at Kensington Town Hall in London by the expatriates. Journalist, poet and music composer Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury presided over the programme.

He also urged the affluent expatriates to invest back in Bangladesh for the uplift of their motherland.

He also said, “The government has increased the direct and indirect assistance to the farmers. As a result, crop production increased this year.”

The President informed his audience that the government is taking requisite measures for developing the communications and power sectors. The government is trying to build Bangladesh as a medium-income country.

“The government has taken many projects and is trying to implement these to reach the goal,” he said.   

Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Sheikh Rehena, younger sister of the Prime Minister, Nazmul Hasan MP, son of the President, Baroness Polauddin, Member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, among others, spoke at the reception.
