The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has called on citizens to refrain from using fireworks and firecrackers during the 31st night celebrations, citing public health and biodiversity concerns.
In a press release, the ministry reminded the public that such activities contribute to increased noise and air pollution, which have serious health impacts, including hearing loss, sleep disturbances, and heightened risk of heart disease.
The use of fireworks has led to tragic incidents in the past, such as the death of a child with a heart condition who was frightened by the loud noise.
The ministry emphasized that unauthorized fireworks violate the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006, and are punishable offenses.
Offenders face penalties, including imprisonment or fines, with harsher consequences for repeat violations.
The ministry urged everyone to cooperate and help create a safer, healthier environment this New Year.
