UK issues travel alert for Bangladesh over terror threat

The United Kingdom (UK) issued a travel advisory on Tuesday, urging foreign nationals to reconsider their plans to visit Bangladesh due to a potential threat of terrorist attacks.

In its updated travel guidance, the UK warned that terrorists might attempt to carry out attacks in Bangladesh, with possible targets including locations frequented by foreign nationals. These could involve crowded areas, religious sites, and political gatherings.

The advisory also highlighted that certain groups have targeted individuals whose views or lifestyles they perceive as contrary to Islamic values. Additionally, there have been sporadic attacks on minority religious communities and security forces, including the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in major cities.

Bangladeshi authorities continue to take measures to disrupt potential attacks, which may result in increased security presence and movement restrictions implemented without prior notice.

The UK government advised foreign citizens to remain vigilant, especially near police buildings, and to avoid large gatherings or areas with a significant security presence. Travelers are also urged to follow the guidance of local authorities to ensure their safety.
