Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said a formal letter has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate the extradition process of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina from India.
He made the remark while responding to a question from journalists at an event held at the BGB headquarters in the capital’s Pilkhana, on Monday (Dec 23).
Jahangir Alam said that the process is underway under the prisoner exchange agreement between Bangladesh and India.
On August 5, Sheikh Hasina, the ousted Prime Minister, fled to India amid a mass uprising led by students and citizens.
Following Sheikh Hasina’s ouster, several ministers, MPs, and leaders of the Awami League also fled the country during and after the revolt.
