A firefighter succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a truck during efforts to extinguish a fire at Dhaka's Secretariat early Thursday.

The victim, identified as Sohanur Zaman Nayan, was part of a special team from the Tejgaon Fire Station. 

Another firefighter, Habibur Rahman, sustained a leg injury while working at the scene.

At a morning press conference, Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal provided details of the incident.

According to Kamal, Nayan was crossing the road to connect a water pipe to a pump when a speeding truck hit him from behind.

The injured firefighter was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
