The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) fired four blank shots near the Satkhira border, causing panic among local residents.
The incident happened early Monday (Jan 13) near the Shivtala area of Ghojadanga, opposite the Bhomra border in Satkhira Sadar upazila.
Masud Rana, Assistant Director of the 33rd Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirming the matter said it occurred within Indian territory and has no link to Bangladesh side.
BGB personnel patrolling the border also confirmed the incident, identifying the shots as blanks fired from sound guns.
On the other hand, tensions have been ongoing in the Lakshmidari border area near Bhomra.
On Saturday morning, two locals, Nazrul Islam and Nazmul Hossain, were prevented by BSF from cultivating their land.
Following the incident, a flag meeting between the BGB and BSF battalions on Sunday resulted in a decision to temporarily halt farming activities on the disputed land.
Both sides agreed to jointly survey the land before reaching a final decision.
