The Managing Director of Destiny Tree Plantation Limited, Rafiqul Amin, has been released from Keraniganj Central Jail after 12 years on Wednesday (January 15).

He was released at 6:30 p.m. 

Dhaka Division DIG Prisons Md. Jahangir Kabir confirmed the matter.

Earlier in the day, a Dhaka court sentenced Rafiqul Amin and 18 others to 12 years in prison and imposed a fine of Tk 4,515.57 crore in a money laundering case. The verdict was delivered by Judge Md. Rabiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4.

However, as Rafiqul Amin had already served 12 years in jail, the court noted that his time in custody would be deducted from the sentence, clearing the way for his release.
