Members of police recovered hanging bodies of a mother and son from a tree in Nalchhiti of Jhalakathi on Sunday morning (April 6).
The bodies were found in the Majhibari area of Purba Sujabada, Mogor Union.
The deceased were identified as Asad Majhi, 35 and his mother Ruby Begum, 55, who were the wife and son of local grocery shop owner Hanif Majhi.
According to Hanif Majhi their family had been facing pressure from a local family after their daughter went missing during last Ramadan. The family accused Hanif's son, Saddam, of hiding the girl, which allegedly led to physical assault and threats towards their son. Hanif believes these pressures might have caused his wife and son to take their own lives.
Nalchhiti Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Salam confirmed the matter.
He said the bodies were sent for autopsy after preparing an inquest report.
A case of unnatural death (UD) has been filed, he added.
