In Chittagong, at least five people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sitakunda upazila in the morning.

Two of the dead were identified as Nizam Uddin, 38, and Delwar, 35. The identity of the rest could not be known immediately. All the dead and injured were the microbus passengers.

Witnesses said a recklessly driven truck collided head-on with a Comilla-bound microbus in Magpukur area at about 7:30am, killing three on the spot and injuring four others.

“The injured, all in critical condition, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where Nizam and Delwar succumbed to their injuries,” says an eyewitness account of the fatal accident.

Injured Adil, 10, and Kalamia, 55, were undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

SI Jahirul Islam of Baro Aulia police camp said the truck driver and his helper fled the scene, leaving behind their lorry.

In Bogra, three people were killed and seven injured as two goods-laden trucks collided head-on in Rabeya area of Sherpur upazila in the morning.
