A Dhaka court today granted bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in nine cases filed against him over political violence in Dhaka on the October 28 BNP rally.

Sultan Sohag Uddin, additional chief metropolitan magistrate of Dhaka, passed the orders after hearing the bail petitions on Tk 10,000 bond today (January 10).

Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal confirmed the matter. 

He said the hearing of the bail application on behalf of Fakhrul ended this noon. At the end of the hearing, the court placed the document for order review. Later, the court granted bail to Fakhrul in all the cases.

However, Fakhrul was yesterday shown arrested in the cases, following defence petitions.

BNP leader Fakhrul is already in jail since October 29 in other two cases and has been denied bail on multiple occasions.

Of the nine cases, six were filed with Paltan Model Police Station, while the rest were filed with Ramna Model Police Station.

The BNP secretary general was arrested in the case on October 29. Later, a bail petition was filed with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka. The court sent him to jail, rejecting his bail petition.
