Mujibur Rahman Bhuiyan Manju has been elected Chairman of the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) by a significant margin during its first national council held at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Saturday.
He secured 1,400 votes, far outpacing his opponents AFM Solaiman Chowdhury (211 votes) and Colonel (retd.) Didarul Alam (33 votes).
A total of 1,689 out of 2,806 councilors cast their votes, with 45 votes canceled.
Meanwhile, Lawyer Asaduzzaman Fuad was elected unopposed as the General Secretary of the party, as no other candidates contested for the post. Fuad, along with Manju, will serve for the next three years.
The council was inaugurated by 1971 Liberation War heroes and July Uprising survivors, with notable attendees including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and leaders from various political parties.
