Barrister Shakila’s bail postponed till March 20

DHAKA: Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday (February 29) put a stay order on bail of SC lawyer Barrister Shakila Farzana by the High Court (HC).

A five-member bench led by chief justice (CJ) SK Sinha pronounced the order in the morning.

The bench also asked the government to submit a leave to appeal to the court within the time.

Senior lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved in favor of Shakila in the court.

Earlier on February 22, an HC bench comprising Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque granted bail till framing charges against her in two cases.

Later, the state appealed to the Appellate Division to put a stay order on bail.

On February 23, appellate division chamber Justice Hasan Foez Siddique put a stay order till February 29 and sent the order to its full bench.

Barrister Shakila was arrested on August 18 in 2015 in a case filed on charge of financing an Islamist extremist outfit Hamza Brigade.
