CHITTAGONG UNVERSITY: The officials of criminal investigation department (CID) on Saturday exhumed the body of Diaz Irfan Chowdhury, assistant general secretary of the central unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), for re-autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Investigation officer of the case and Chittagong Zone CID ASP Ohidur Rahman, upazila executive magistrate Ariful Rahman Sardar and CU police outpost in-charge Mosaddek Hossain and Diaz’s maternal uncle Sajed Bin Hamid were present during digging the body out.
Ohidur Rahman told Banglanews that after completing the autopsy, the body would be brought back to Chittagong and inhumed around 10:00 pm.
Diaz’s maternal uncle Hamid expected to get justice this time.
Earlier on December 6, senior judicial magistrate of Chittagong Shiblu Kumar Dey ordered to exhume the body for re-autopsy. The order also asked the DMCH forensic department head to form a three-member specialists committee in this regard.
On November 20, police recovered the hanging body of the leader of the student wing of ruling Awami League from his family residence in Chittagong.
The primary autopsy report, published on November 23, said he committed suicide by hanging himself.
Refusing the report, Diaz’s mother filed a lawsuit with the court of senior judicial magistrate of Chittagong Shiblu Kumar Dey on the next day.
CU assistant proctor Anwar Hossain, CU unit BCL president Alamgir Tipu, former acting president of CU unit BCL Abul Mansur Jamshed, CU unit BCL vice-presidents Mansur Alam, Abdul Maleq, joint general secretary Abu Torab Parash, organizing secretary Mohammad Arman, entertainment affairs secretary Mizanur Rahman, deputy publicity secretary Rashedul Alam Jisan, member Areful Haque Apu and other eight to 10 unnamed persons were made accused in the case.
