Not govt, CJ decided to remove SC statue: Moudud

DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said that the decision of removing the sculpture of Lady Justice from Supreme Court premises came from the Chief Justice himself, not the government.

He made the remark while addressing a protest rally demanding BNP vice-chairman Barkatillah Bulu’s release at National Press Club auditorium on Friday (May 26).

Moudud said, before the removal, Chief Justice SK Sinha held a meeting with senior lawyers on Thursday (May 25).

“CJ took recommendations from other lawyers. They don’t wish for any controversies regarding the Supreme Court. It is not the government but CJ himself decided to remove the statue.”

Terming the ruling party Awami League as extremist, vengeful and intolerant party, Moudud said there is alternative of united movement against AL to bring back democracy in the country.

Moudud also mentioned the Election Commission (EC) as one of the government-influenced organization and unfit to hold a free and fair election.

Earlier around 4:00am Friday (May 26), the sculpture of Lady Justice was removed from the Supreme Court premises that created a mass protest in social media.
