DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday (May 29) hosted an Iftar party at Hotel Westin in the capital city in honor of foreign diplomats working in Dhaka.

Before taking the Iftar, Khaleda Zia along with her party’s senior leaders went round the tables of invited guests and exchanged pleasantries with the foreign diplomats.

The BNP chief took Iftar flanked by high commissioners and ambassadors of Egypt, the USA, the UK, European Union, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and some other countries.  

Ambassadors, high commissioners, mission chiefs, charge d' affaires and representatives from different international agencies and other envoys from around 40 countries, including India, Pakistan, Japan, Australia, Iran, Qatar, Switzerland, Singapore, the Philippines, the Maldives, Indonesia, Nepal, Germany, Bhutan, Denmark, Palestine and Malaysia, attended the party.

Among them, US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, British High Commissioner Alison Blake, Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, EU Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon, Vatican Ambassador Archbishop George Kocherry, Dr Sayeed Bin Hazar Al-shahi of UAE and Rafiuzzaman Siddique of Pakistan.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s senior leaders Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Meer Nasir, Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hissain, Advocate Joynal Abedin, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Inam Ahmed Chowdhury, Sabihuddin Ahmed and Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon were present, among party leaders.
Former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury of Gonosastya Kendra, Prof Dr Mahbub Ullah, Prof Dr Khandaker Mostahidur Rahman, noted jurist Dr Shahdeen Malik, journalist Mahfuz Ullah, Dr Sukomal Barua, among others, joined the program from civil society.
