DHAKA: Awami League general secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that BNP’s craving to gain power in the next general election is nothing but foolish.
He made the comment while addressing as chief guest at a discussion marking the historic 6-point Day organized jointly by Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League North and South unit at BUET auditorium on Wednesday evening (June 7).
Quader said, “During the 2008 election, BNP Chief Khaleda Zia said that AL won’t even get 30 seats across the country, but it turned out that her own party didn’t get 30 seats. Now they are dreaming to acquire power in the next election which is just silly.”
Mentioning Khaleda’s remarks on how the year 2018 will be the year of the people, Quader said BNP appears as they will be in power in the next election. They think that what happened in 2001 election will be repeated in 2018. That kind of thinking is just fool’s errand.
Pointing at BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Quader said, “I cant definitively say what will be the outcome of the next election but I can say this- with the lead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, AL will win and you will lose.”
