KHAGRACHHARI: Police claim to have arrested two people in connection with the murder of Juba League leader of Rangamati’s Longdu upazila Nurul Islam Nayan.

Police arrested the two people in separate drives conducted in Khagrachhari district from Thursday night (June 09).

The arrestees are Runel Chakma, 18, and Junel Chakma, 30. They are inhabitants of Babuchhara area in Khagrachhari.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Dighinala police station Md Shamsuddin Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to the Banglanews.

He said that the drives are going on to recover the motorbike which the Juba League leader was riding before the murder.

Superintendent of police (SP) of Khagrachhari Md Ali Ahmed Khan and officer of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Moin Uddin are leading the drives.

The body of Nurul Islam Nayan was found near the Khagrachari-Dighinala Road area June 01.

Following the murder, the protesters began setting ablaze the homes of hill peoples in the Tintila Pahra, Batya Parha, Manikjur and Boradarm areas at Longdu upazila.
