DHAKA: Law Minister Anisul Huq has said that the Parliament can discuss any matter of the state as sovereign organ. So the law is not ignored for discussing the verdict of the Supreme Court that scrapped the 16th constitutional amendment, he added.
He said these while talking to journalists after attending the concluding session of basic training of land officers at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre in Savar, on the outskirts of capital city, on Wednesday (July 12).
The minister made the comments apparently in reaction to statements of the civil society members and the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
The civil society members at a roundtable discussion, organized by Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) in the city on Tuesday (July 11), said that the MPs ignored the rules of procedure of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) by launching a blistering attack on the SC verdict.
On the same day, the SCBA demanded for withdrawal of the MPs’ remarks against the judiciary in the Parliament.
Earlier on Sunday night (July 9), the MPs in the Parliament blasted the SC verdict that declared their power to impeach judges as illegal and demanded for a review of the verdict.
About misuse of ‘Section 57’ of the ICT Act, Anisul Huq said that final decision in this regard will be taken in the first week of August.
Speaking at the concluding session of the training course, he said that the government has taken initiative to provide training to the land officers abroad.
At the function, he distributed certificates of training to 30 officers.
