DHAKA: The High Court has granted ad-interim bail to six BNP-backed ward councilors of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) in a sabotage case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah on Thursday (July 13) granted the bail following an appeal filed by the accused councilors.
Advocate Abu Hanif moved for the councilors in the court. He said that that there is no legal bar to release the councilors.
A Gazipur court on Tuesday (July 11) sent the BNP-backed ward councilors to the jail after they appeared before the court in the case.
The accused councilors are- Md. Faisal Ahmed Sarkar of ward no. 15, Md. Tanvir Ahmed of ward no. 19, Md Shahidul Islam of ward no. 20, Md. Hannan Miah Hannu of ward no. 26, Md Shafiuddin of ward no. 48 and Sheikh Mohammad Alek of ward no. 54.
Police filed the case against the councilors with Joydevpur police station on April 15 in 2016 on charge of setting fire to a vehicle.
