BCL hands over 7 DU students to police as Shibir suspect

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Leaders-activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) handed over to police seven students of Dhaka University (DU) as suspected members of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.

BCL men rounded them up from different halls of the university on Saturday night (Aug 12) and handed over to police after beating them up.

The seven suspected Shibir men are identified as Emon Hossain and Raihan, both MA students of Islamic Studies Department from Masterda Surja Sen Hall, Arabic Department students Zillur Rahman, Mahbub Alam and Islamic Studies Dept student Nazmul Hasan from Sir AF Rahman Hall, Al Amin Hawladar from Bijay Ekattar Hall and Psychology Dept student Manirul Islam from Zia Hall.

Manirul sustained serious injuries after BCL men including DU unit assistant secretary and others roughly beat him up in the dormitory room (No 227) with iron rod. Later he was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition where BCL central president Saifur Rahman Sohag went to check up on him.

Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Hasan told Banglanews that seven DU students were handed over to police station as suspected Shibir men. We will take action after scrutinizing their history.
