DHAKA: Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader has met with the President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Monday (Aug 14).

Quader went to President’s official residence Bangabhaban around 12:00pm. The meeting was held for an hour and Quader came out from there around 1:00pm.

After the meeting Quader told reporters, "I conveyed our party’s stance on the Supreme Court verdict scrapping the 16th amendment to the constitution."

He further said, “President is the custodian of the state and he is the one who appoints chief justice. I have talked with him about party's stance over the issue.”

Earlier on Aug 12, Quader met with Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha at CJ’s residence and took diner together. The content of that meeting was also not disclosed. However, several AL sources said Quader met chief justice to brief him about party’s stance on the Supreme Court verdict scrapping the 16th amendment to the constitution and some of its observations.

After the SC verdict was pronounced, many senior leaders of the ruling party came forward with statements criticizing the verdict and demanding a review. On Aug 13, AL led 14-party alliance in a press conference said they are seeking a review of the verdict and withdrawn of some of its observations.
