COMILLA: A teacher of Comilla University received life threats from students as he was accused of conducting a class on August 15, the National Mourning Day.
The victim teacher is Mahbubul Haque Bhuiyan, acting departmental head of Mass Communication and Journalism department at CU.
On August 16, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and a student of Anthropology Department of 11th batch posted a status on his facebook, giving direct threats to that teacher, while tagging 13 other leaders and activists of BCL.
On Friday (August 18), Mahbubul Haque filed a General Diary (GD) with Sadar South Police Station based on the facebook life threat.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam of Sadar South Police Station said that legal action will be taken against the accused following investigation.
Earlier, BCL submitted a petition to Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Ali Ashraf, claiming expulsion of the teacher on charge of conducting a class on National Mourning Day.
Later, the teacher was sent on a month’s compulsory leave without any form of investigation.
Besides, a 4-member investigation committee was formed in this regard.
