UP chairman among 5 sued over gang-rape

BAGERHAT: A UP chairman and four other people were sued on charge of gang-raping of a 24-yeal old young woman in Bagerhat. The case was filed on Thursday (August 31).

Chairman of Khanpur Union Parishad of Bagerhat sadar and the union unit Awami League general secretary Fakir Faham Uddin and his four supporters were made accused in the case.

The victim’s elder sister filed the case with Bagerhat Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The plaintiff alleged that her sister was gang-raped by the UP chairman and his supporters at a garden at Ranzitpur village under Khanpur union on Wednesday night (August 30). Police recovered the victim and sent to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital.

Talking to the Bangalnews the plaintiff said, “My sister came to my home at Uttar Khanpur village on Friday (August 25) to visit us. I along with her went to Foilahat Bazar for Eid shopping in the evening. When we were returning home, the UP chairman along with three motorbikes interrupted us and beat up. Later, they took away my sister to a nearby garden and gang-raped her forcibly.”

Additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Bagerhat Shahadat Hossain said that on information, they rescued the victim woman and sent to the hospital. “We are trying to arrest the accused,” he said.    

Fakir Faham Uddin, however, denied the allegation.
